Boarding Up Blight in North Braddock

How would a college knock out blight in North Braddock, PA? On Saturday, April 18, North Braddock Cares, Inc. will have 40 students on hand to ask that question!

30 student volunteers from Slippery Rock University and 10 from Penn State University Greater Allegheny campus will be working in North Braddock from 10AM to 5PM to board up and beautify vacant or abandoned properties in the community that are in violation of Borough Codes. With over 300 vacant homes in North Braddock, volunteer weekends like these are crucial to making progress toward securing the properties. On April 18, these SRU and PSU students will tackle over 40 of these vacant properties to remove weeds and board up windows and doors. Perhaps some of them will have their own ideas of how a community could prevent and remedy blight in the future.

Students will meet at the corner of 4th and Hawkins at 9:30AM to begin the board up.
