If you’ve been thinking about buying your own home, plan to attend a house tour on April 7, where you could learn how to get up to $10,000 in assistance with your down payment and closing costs.
“Make Homebuying Magic in the Magic City” will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 7 and is being organized by Mon Valley Initiative.
Up to 10 houses will be available for visits and a housing counselor and home remodeling experts will be available to answer questions at MVI’s new Mid-Mon Office, 435 McKean Ave., Charleroi.
It’s open to anyone interested in buying a home in Charleroi Borough, including first-time buyers, recent graduates, growing families who need more space, or older people looking to downsize, says Grant Cole, a community outreach specialist with Mon Valley Initiative.
Housing counselors and real estate development experts from Mon Valley Initiative will be on hand to explain how up to $10,000 in down-payment and closing cost assistance is available, now through June 30, 2019, for people buying homes in Charleroi Borough. The money is available through the state’s housing trust fund. Some restrictions apply to that program, and applicants must meet income requirements.
Real estate agents are still being recruited to display homes for sale, Cole says. Interested agents should call 412-464-4000, ext. 4024.
The event is geared toward people who are buying a home in Charleroi for use as their primary residence, and is not for landlords or real-estate speculators, Cole says.
