FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – East Pittsburgh, PA, September 22, 2014 – The East Pittsburgh Economic Development Corporation (EPEDC) is hosting its Second Annual Community Health Fair on Saturday, September 27, from 10am until 1pm. The Health Fair will be held at the East Pittsburgh Community Center, 506 Bessemer Avenue, and will provide access to community resources, information, and service providers. Nurses from UPMC McKeesport Outreach will provide flu shots, and screenings for blood pressure, bone density, body fat, and vision for members of the community and surrounding areas who are 18 and older.
After the success of the first Community Health Fair in 2013, EPEDC is excited to be inviting even more local services and organizations in and around East Pittsburgh to participate in this year’s event. They are expecting nearly 20 organizations to fill the Community Center on Bessemer Avenue.
“The Health Fair is a fun community event that educates children and connects parents and adults to new resources for themselves and their families,” said Mary Carol Kennedy, President of EPEDC. “We appreciate these organizations taking the time to come out to share their services and information with our community.”
Organizations attending or providing literature for the Health Fair will be: UPMC McKeesport Outreach, UPMC Health Plan, the East Pittsburgh Police Department, the East Pittsburgh Abused & Neglected Animal Fund, United Way 211, Keystone Health Club, Forbes Family Medicine, Gateway Rehab, Safe Kids, the Braddock Carnegie Library, the Autism Society of Pittsburgh, the Monroeville Assembly of God health care center, the Wilmerding YMCA, YWCA Greater Pittsburgh, Braddock Hills Giant Eagle Pharmacy, the Western PA Human Trafficking Coalition, the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, the Arthritis Foundation, and the Mon Valley Initiative Workforce Development and Housing Counseling programs. There will also be a self-defense demonstration.
