Real jobs will be available Aug. 4 for people who want to jump-start their careers.
That’s the message that Mon Valley Initiative and Southwestern Pennsylvania Re-Entry Coalition are sending about their hiring event next month at the Waterfront in Homestead.
“Jump Start Your Job Search” will match 11 different employers and four different job training programs with people who are unemployed, underemployed or looking for a career change.
The event will be held Friday, Aug. 4 at the Allegheny Intermediate Unit offices, 475 East Waterfront Drive, Homestead. The public is invited from 12 noon to 2 p.m. to meet with recruiters and trainers. (A special, by-invitation-only session is being held from 9 to 11 a.m.) Everyone who attends will have a chance to win one of five $20 gift cards.
For more information, call Camille Smith, MVI workforce development specialist and financial coach, at (412) 464-4000, or email csmith@monvalleyinitiative.com.
Attendees should bring their resumes, if they have one, and dress neatly, Smith said. Applicants will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. “We want everyone who comes to take this seriously,” she said. “These are real job opportunities and we will have real employers on-site who are looking to hire people from the Mon Valley and all over the area.”
Applicants who don’t find a match among the employers at “Jump Start Your Job Search” will be encouraged to enroll in one of MVI’s other workforce development programs, which provide career counseling, life-skills coaching, help with filling out applications and developing a resume, and financial-planning advice.
Employers who are scheduled to attend and conduct on-site interviews include Allegheny Health Network, Christian Home Healthcare, Eat’n Park Hospitality Group, LGC Hospitality Staffing, Omni William Penn Hotel, PeopleReady, Rice Enterprises LLC, Rivers Casino, Superior Home Care and Wofford-ECE Consulting.
Job training partners will include Community College of Allegheny County, Goodwill Industries of Pittsburgh, Manchester-Bidwell Corp., McConway & Torley Group and Rainbow Kitchen.
