Washington and Monongahela avenues, Swissvale

The Kopp Glass Gateway Redevelopment is located in the southwest corner of Swissvale. It’s strategic location, at the gateway from Rankin and overlooking the Carrie Furnace site, compliments several other high-profile projects with investments already made by the public and private sectors.

Beginning in 2008, Mon Valley Initiative, in partnership with SEDCO and the Borough of Swissvale, invested $4.35 million in Swissvale’s Kopp Glass neighborhood over a five-year timeframe, acquiring properties, constructing new homes, renovating structures for homeownership, and demolishing dilapidated buildings to expand green space.

This development runs from Washington Avenue to Duquesne Avenue and Monongahela Avenue to Palmer Street.

It has impacted 51 separate parcels, creating 16 homes, ranging from condominiums in a church conversion, to rehabbed historic homes, to new construction accessible homes.

The project has demolished 13 blighted structures to make way for the expansion of the Park Avenue green space.
